What are closed captions? Why are they important?
A.
Closed captioning is the display of text on the video screen in order to communicate spoken dialogue. The audience for closed captioning is typically those individuals that are hard of hearing. However, they can also be used to display a translation (aka 'subtitles') to non-native speakers of the video language.

How can I enable closed captioning on my content?
A.
To enable closed captioning, simply upload a caption file for each of your media. Caption files are treated as video metadata and therefore can be uploaded in the ‘Media Properties’ in your account. The format of a caption file should follow the Distribution Format Exchange Profile (
DFXP) standard. Uploaded files that do not follow this standard will be ignored.

How does the viewer know that closed captions are available?
A.
The LVP player will automatically detect the existence of a caption file for a media, displaying a closed-caption control for the viewer. Once the viewer clicks the closed-caption control a menu of available languages will display. The viewer can select a specific language or select to disable the display of captions.
